What’s new @ Barrington Arch

As usual we’ve been busy! We’ve been working a range of different projects in different areas, which is great. From developing BIM content (for Revit & ArchiCAD) to launching some web apps for the iPhone – more on this next week.

We are currently helping to develop some BIM content for Blue Giant Corporation, which will be provided free of charge to Revit users throughout the world. Blue Giant is a manufacturer of large industrial & commercial docking solutions. It’s great to see large companies like this embracing the move to BIM & providing this content to BIM users. As always we expect this to greatly improve their reach to architects and strengthen their brand for the future.

BIM marketing engine is starting up! – Just check these first.

In the last six months we’ve noticed that BIM (building information modeling) has been getting a real push. Ads for Graphisoft BIM server & Autodesk Revit are flooding the web and every directory service is pushing that they ‘now’ have BIM content available for download.

This is great to see, however BIM has been around for a long time. Which makes us wonder; how many companies are just jumping on the “BIM” bandwagon?

This makes it a bit confusing for building product manufacturers (BPMs) that are wanting to have their content integrated in Revit & ArchiCAD. So before you commit to getting your BIM content built, quickly check the following:

  • Has the company been developing BIM content for a while?
  • Are they well known?
  • Do they have any current distribution methods to help get the content out there?
  • Can they collect useful statistics, such as downloads & click through stats? – remember if you can’t measure it, it’s not worth doing!
  • Do they provide on going support? to help with product upgrades & BIM software updates

If you can get good solid answers to these questions, then go for it. Having accurate BIM content built of your products will be one of the best decisions your company will make. Yielding a great return on investment  (click here to read more on ROI)
