Buildingpress.com Launched!

Our latest creation has arrived > Buildingpress.com

Buildingpress.com is a brand new blog network for everybody in the AEC industry (architecture, engineering & construction).
We wanted a place for everybody in our industry to get together & communicate. It’s been a long time in the making, after expermenting with forums & chat style sites, we settled on a full blog network. It’s taken a lot of work but we are very happy with the results.

Blogging is a great way to get more people following your business & what you are up to! So head to Buildingpress.com and grab your own free blog today! Whether you want to talk about architecture, building, designing or BIM (building information modeling) we’d love you to join us.

Do you want an integrated news or blog site for your website? Contact us today at info@barringtonarch.com to find out about our building industry focused web development.

We’ve been busy recently. Working on a range of different things which is great, as it let’s us experience all the aspects of the building industry, from designing a couple of new building projects to building more manufacturer specific BIM content (for ArchiCAD, Revit & Sketchup). This content will be uploaded to all of the necessary directories soon.

The launch of ArchiCAD 13 brought some great new features to the table. One of which was their new “BIM server” which we are very excited about and we are sure that it is a technology which will help to shape the future of the building industry!

As usual we’ve also been working on an exciting new product in the background. It’s something that everyone in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering & Construction) industry will be able to join in on! Stay tuned for more on this project (check back here or follow us on twitter @barringtonarch).

If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing properly!

Later we’ve seen an increase in the number of building product manufacturer (BPMs) wanting BIM content built (for mainly Revit & ArchiCAD).

Because of this a lot of “providers” are jumping on the band wagon. Some good, some not so….

BIM content is designed to make the life of the CAD/BIM user easier, so make sure the content you are having developed meets their needs. As they are the top priority!

As an example (whilst on a recent search engine mission) we downloaded some window objects for ArchiCAD (from a directory we won’t name) that were supposedly parametric. However after downloading them and adding them to our ArchiCAD project, we discovered that they had just been poorly thrown together and there were no parameters at all?!  What use is a window object that no one can resize or adjust?

We contacted the manufacturer & are helping them to sort this problem out. As they don’t want poor BIM content with their name on it floating around (it’s not helpful to their customers & certainly isn’t good for their branding).

Have you got BIM content (for Revit, ArchiCAD, Bentley or Sketchup) that you would like checked? We are happy to take a look over it for free. Simply email us at info@barringtonarch.com

A problem with Architectural rendering & CGI is the amount of time & computer power it takes to produce the beautiful & photorealic images. Have a look at some of ours here>

An amazing new technology that is emerging is “real time” renders. These allow us to work & adjust the images in real time, thus allowing us to produce beautiful images with much less of today’s trial & error.

Three Real Time renderers that we’ve been trying out are: (all of them seem to produce great results)

All the above have there pros & cons, but all are heading down the same real time path.

In the last six months we’ve noticed that BIM (building information modeling) has been getting a real push. Ads for Graphisoft BIM server & Autodesk Revit are flooding the web and every directory service is pushing that they ‘now’ have BIM content available for download.

This is great to see, however BIM has been around for a long time. Which makes us wonder; how many companies are just jumping on the “BIM” bandwagon?

This makes it a bit confusing for building product manufacturers (BPMs) that are wanting to have their content integrated in Revit & ArchiCAD. So before you commit to getting your BIM content built, quickly check the following:

  • Has the company been developing BIM content for a while?
  • Are they well known?
  • Do they have any current distribution methods to help get the content out there?
  • Can they collect useful statistics, such as downloads & click through stats? – remember if you can’t measure it, it’s not worth doing!
  • Do they provide on going support? to help with product upgrades & BIM software updates

If you can get good solid answers to these questions, then go for it. Having accurate BIM content built of your products will be one of the best decisions your company will make. Yielding a great return on investment  (click here to read more on ROI)
