BIM content vs Your Sales Reps

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

This morning when we were checking our site statistics (we have a live feed), & thought it would be a good time to share some.

Earlier in the year we worked with Resene to integrate all of their colour ranges into ArchiCAD (the most widely used BIM software in Resene’s home country of New Zealand).

Since their release in February, they have been downloaded 1283 times! That’s a staggering number when you think that New Zealand only has a population of 4 million.

It begs the question; who could get this product information out faster. The BIM content, backed by our distribution methods or Resene’s architectural sales reps/consultants? If Resene have 3 reps across the country who can visit an average of 2 people/practices per working day. It would take them 214 days (43weeks) to get the information out to the same amount of architects and decision makers. Where as with the BIM content we have been able to half that time and do it for around 0.04% of the cost of employing those reps! – talk about business at the speed of thought.

Testimony from Laing Homes

Laing HomesBelow is a testimony from Grant Laing, General Manager of Laing Homes.

We were employeed by Laing Homes to help design low cost, modern, movable homes. This involved a large amount of design & careful planning, as well as 3D renderings of the finished designs.

Below is the testimony from Grant:

1). What were your perceptions about our service – and were you reluctant in any way before you came to us?

Your architectural services were referred to us by Clive Barrington Construction who we understand has used your architectural services in the past. Accordingly we were quite comfortable making an initial approach to your firm.

2)  How has that perception changed now since you have dealt with us?

We were impressed with your professionalism and your ability to provide the concept drawings to us in a timely manner.

3) What do you think now was the biggest benefit of the product/service?

The biggest benefit to our Company was that you were able to provide realistic 3D computer images.

4)    How were you able to use that benefit?

We have been able to show prospective clients these images, although as yet we have been unable to convert any business directly from this.

5) Would you go out of your way to recommend our company & service to a friend?

Yes, we would be prepared to recommend your Company to a friend or colleague as we believe you to be an up and coming architect.

6) What would you say to someone thinking about using our product/service – And why?

We would suggest that people talk to you as we believe you can offer them fresh, contemporary ideas.

Smoke Detectors – Run and buy some!

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

Over the last few months we’ve been working with Switched On Property Maintenance & Housing New Zealand to help repair four burnt out houses around the Christchurch area.

Luckily all of the people in the houses escaped safely. However seeing the state of the burnt out house remains has really hit the smoke detector message home!

Smoke detectors are cheap to buy and (without sounding too cliched) they really do save lives. So if you haven’t already, run out and buy some. They’re cheap to buy & easy to install.

As a standard now days any new building project we work on, the first thing that is added to the electrical plan are the hard wired smoke detectors.

The building code states that you must have them no more than 3m from a bedroom door, however from what we’ve seen in the last couple of months; when it comes to smoke detectors & fire safety in general, it’s always good to aim slightly higher than the code.
